Coral polyps are small marine animals that secrete exoskeletons. When they die, the structures remain and can be colonized, generation after generation. Along over thousands or millions of years, large structures known as coral reefs.
Coral reefs are often called “rainforests of the sea” as they form one of the most diverse ecosystems on Earth. However, they are fragile ecosystems as they are very sensitive to changes in water temperature.
